Pick Up Backpacker Travel insurance

6:24 AM

Backpackers travel insurance policies offer the backpacker a preferable level of coverage, that is not achievable with a standard travel insurance package. The average backpacker goes to destinations that are rammed with adventure, and also, specific dangers that are intrinsic to the nature of what they are doing. It is this often austere backdrop that causes them to have to have backpackers travel insurance. The limitations that exist with a normal travel insurance policy, are very much relevant to the nature of activity that people partake in, as well as the countries and places that they will be wanting to visit. It is differences such as this, that make backpackers travel insurance policies extremely important.

A standard insurance policy is going to exclude any claims that are to do with activities that put the policy holder at a high risk of injury. Gorge walking, for example. Backpacking is automatically queried by companies, in relation to standard holiday insurance, as backpacking people tend to travel to area that a normal holiday would not include travelling to. The accommodation that backpackers frequent, is often considered to be less safe than other types of holiday accommodation. Insurance companies view backpackers at a higher risk of being attacked and robbed. Not least of all because they walk around with a big bag of valuables strapped to their backs. backpacking insurance policies offer more coverage because of the nature of this.

The type of travelling that a backpacker does, is different from a general holiday maker. It involves a lot of individual needs being catered for. A range of countries needs to be considered, as well as remote areas that are often fraught with danger. When backpacking, it is often more common for people to go to the type of areas that are prone to natural disasters. Policies have to take this into account, even if this accountability is privy to certain restriction. Backpacker policies often give the chance of policies being extended, in the event of plans changing while the policy holder is in the other country.

For so many people, the appropriate way of celebrating the leaving of university, is to go and visit a fair few countries on a backpacking holiday. It is, for so many people, the only cost effective way of doing such a thing. The only economically viable way of taking in so many wonderful cultures.

Even with this backpacking travel insurance though. Some still find that they cannot get coverage for the destinations that they want to go to the most. Sierra Leone, for instance, or Uganda. This means that if they make the decision to just go there anyway, then they are putting themselves at risk, and leaving things in the hands of the gods. It is not a wise move, but then backpacking is all about being adventurous. Whatever your backpacking decision is, you should always try and secure the best backpacking travel insurance that is available to you.

Driving around the UK - From London to Norwich.

6:25 AM

This is part one of a five part series I am writing and it will give some advice and directions should you feel like exploring England a little more. We'll start the journey by leaving London and heading north east to Norwich that will cover the first leg of the journey. So now we know where we are going, but do we have everything we need? Make sure that you have all the correct documentation with you like your travel and car insurance policies as well as your breakdown cover policy document.
But we'll be taking the scenic route to Norwich by going via Cambridge, so head for the A406 and take junction 4 onto the M11 towards Cambridge. Follow the M11 until you reach junction 11 and then take the A10/A1309 to Harston/Cambridge (S) and at the traffic circle you want to take the 3rd exit onto Hauxton Rd and that will take you straight into Cambridge.
Once you arrive in Cambridge, you will most likely need some lunch (if not plan it so that you do) and that is handy, because there are some great little restaurants around town. Head over to The Cow for some great pizzas that experiment with a variety of toppings to satisfy everyone's cravings! One of the combinations that caught my eye was the humus and poached eggs on spinach, and it was great, so try something different at The Cow, you won't regret it!
After lunch you should take some time to go and have a look at the beautiful campus buildings before moving along late afternoon to Norwich. And that is where we'll pick it up again in the second part of our series. While you are travelling and in and out of the car regularly, make sure that you don't lose any of your important documents (breakdown cover, car insurance, driver's license, etc).

Insurance. Duplicated Insurance Wastes Money.

6:25 AM

Have you ever worked out how much you spend on insurance? Try totting up your premiums - we suspect you'll be surprised! You'll be even more surprised to discover that there's a probability that you've also duplicated some of the cover you're paying for. Cut the duplication out and you're certain to save money.

Lots of people have insurance cover for legal expenses, loss of income, theft, even death, without even realising it. This can arise because many of us don't fully understand what's covered by the policies we have, especially if the policies had been arranged for us by financial advisers and brokers.

In a recent survey, The Financial Services Authority (FSA) discovered that optional extras such as breakdown recovery and legal expense cover, were frequently added to car insurance without checking whether the policyholder was already covered. It's also not uncommon to find that people with Permanent Medical Insurance have duplicated their cover via payment protection policies taken out specifically to cover their monthly payments on mortgages, loans and credit cards. The point is that if they claim on their Permanent Medical Insurance, their payout will be reduced because part of their claim is also insured through their payment protection policies - so their payment protection insurance is really a waste of money.

The Financial Ombudsman has confirmed this saying, 'People often contact us when they find themselves over-insured. They often do not realise until they make a claim that they have been paying for a policy that provides very little, if any, benefit'.

There's also ample of evidence that some of us simply don't understand what we're actually insured for! For example, take the case of Amanda Lariviere from West Yorkshire. Amanda, aged 42 and mother of two, is recovering from ovarian cancer and had an allergic reaction to chemotherapy which kept her off work. Out of the blue she received an unwelcome tax bill so she decided to visit her building society to find out if she could raise some cash by re-mortgaging. The adviser at the Society wisely asked her to bring with her, her life insurance policies so that they could be used to support her re-mortgage application. So imagine Amanda's surprise and delight when the adviser explained that her policies with Norwich Union and Scottish Provident, which had been costing her ?80 per month, were not life insurance policies at all - they were actually critical illness policies with a combined insured value of ?100,000. She was able to claim on these policies and the ?100,000 she received was sufficient to pay off most of her mortgage and her tax bill!

Here's some typical insurance policies to check out.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness insurance is often sold as an optional extra within a life insurance policy. In fact that's usually the cheapest way to buy it. However, some enlightened employers already provide critical illness insurance as part of their employment package. Ask your employer if you are one of the lucky ones!

Life Insurance

Some employers also provide life insurance cover within their pension schemes. It's called death-in-service benefit and typically pays out a tax-free lump sum worth 3 to 4 times the annual salary if the employee were to die whilst employed by the company.

Permanent Medical Insurance and Payment Protection Insurance

Permanent Medical Insurance (PMI) is also known by some people as Income Protection Insurance. PMI pays out the insured monthly sum if the policyholder is off work due to illness due to one of a wide range of specified illnesses - and some policies will even pay out during redundancy. PMI policies pay out indefinitely or at least until the policy comes to the end of its insured term.

Few appreciate is that PMI actually eliminates the need for Payment Protection insurance - the sort of insurance frequently sold alongside loans, credit cards and mortgages to maintain monthly payments if you are off sick, have an accident or are made redundant. Indeed, you can't make a claim against more than one policy for the same event - only one policy will agree to pay out! (All the others will reduce their payouts to the value of the money you are receiving from your other policies)

Mobile Phone Insurance Normally mobile phone policies have a hefty excess - rarely less than ?50. You could be better saving the insurance and changing to a pay-as-you-go plan.

Legal Expense Insurance

Insurance for legal expenses relating to disputes concerning your home will usually be included free of charge within your home and contents insurance policy. Most car insurance policies provide legal expense cover as an optional extra - others even include it as standard. Some trade unions and professional associations sometimes include access to legal advice as part of their service to their members. Check these out before you pay for more cover!

Insurance for ID Theft According to 'Which', the consumer magazine, you are only legally responsible for the first ?50 if your identity is stolen. Is it worth insuring for a ?50 risk? Incidentally, my bank has just given me this insurance for free!

Automatic cover for credit card purchases Many credit cards automatically insure your purchases for a set period of time after you've shopped. Barclaycard is a good example. If you used Barclaycard to buy something valued between ?50 and ?2,000, you're insured against theft and accidental damage for the next 60 days.

Make Your Health Insurance Plan Work For You

6:25 AM

No matter how avidly you take care of your health, there are unexpected circumstances that can land you a day or two in the hospital. If you are not prepared and you do not have enough health insurance coverage, this can cut a great deal with your savings. Thus, it is very important that you choose the best health insurance plan that can help you in case of an emergency.

First, check out all the health insurance options that you have. Consider your family's health needs as well when signing-up for an insurance plan. There are two types of health insurance plan that you can sign-up for: private and government health insurance options. The private health insurance is personally signed-up for by an individual. You will also have a health insurance plan when you are employed. The company will provide you with coverage as part of your employee benefits.

The health insurance coverage provided by the government may be offered on a local, state or national level. Medicare is an example of a health insurance plan offered on a national level. Medicare benefits are available for people who are over 65 years of age, and to persons with disabilities. Other government-initiated health insurance programs include: Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program, health care benefits for the veterans and military, as well as eligible American Indians.

If you want to sign-up for a private health insurance plan, learn everything that you need to know about the coverage stipulated on your contract. Read the coverage information and check the sections stating the exclusions. Avoid signing up for one which has a long list of exclusions that would not cover much of anything. More importantly, make sure that you have a copy of every contract that you will sign. See to it that your personal information is correct and make a note of the coverage period. All in all, make sure that you have ample health insurance coverage for you to use whenever you need it.

Discussing Home insurance

6:26 AM

The most expensive asset that most people will ever buy is their house; if it should become damaged for any reason then the cost of repairing it can be very expensive. If your house was to fall down due to a natural disaster then rebuilding it may be financially impossible. This is why home insurance UK is something that you might have to consider. Home insurance is a way of limiting your costs and preventing you from being over exposed to risk.

Risk avoidance

Almost everybody hates risk, and they will do everything that they possibly can to remove as much risk as possible. Although it's never possible to remove all of the risk, it is possible to reduce the risk and limit your exposure.

When owning a house there are a number of risks that can cause you financial hardship, these include damage to your property and loss of your belongings from within your property. There are two types of insurance in the UK which are designed to reduce this risk.

Buildings Insurance

Buildings insurance is what most people think of when it comes to home insurance UK, this is the type of insurance that protects you from the costs involved in rebuilding or repairing your property in case it ever becomes damaged or destroyed. Common examples of when you can claim on your buildings insurance include as a result of fire, criminal damage, floods, and a number of natural disasters.

There is no legal requirement in the UK to have buildings insurance, however if you still have a mortgage then you may find that your lender insists you have buildings insurance as this not only protects your home, but it also protects their investment.

Contents insurance

Contents insurance is designed to protect your belongings, should anyone break into your home and steal anything then your contents insurance will pay to replace it.

Unlike buildings insurance you are under no obligation to have contents insurance even if you still have a mortgage. Whether you decide to have contents insurance or not is completely up to you, there is no legal requirement and your lender will not request it.

Home insurance UK provides you with a great way to protect your home in case anything does happen to it and you need to pay for it. Our homes are more important than many people give them credit for, they're not only somewhere for us to live, but they are also somewhere where we keep all of our belongings. That's why contents insurance might be such an important thing to consider.

Insurance will make sure that you have the money required to fit out your home, replace your belongings and repair any damage should you need to. It might seem very confusing to compare the different insurance options. The first thing you need to do is assess exactly what you need and expect from an insurance policy.

Home insurance UK might not be a legal requirement however it is might still be considered as an essential way to protect you and your family from costs caused by damage or theft from your property.

Cheap Term Life Insurance

6:26 AM

Should you buy cheap term life insurance? It's an often-asked question to which there is a cheap and simple answer. If you have a mortgage or you have a partner, family or dependants that could suffer financial hardship as a result of your death then cheap term life insurance is a must!

Cheap term life insurance, otherwise known simply as life insurance or term life is a cheap life insurance policy that pays out a lump sum upon your death. The premiums are very cheap and term life insurance policies are very easy to obtain. There are two basic types of term life insurance available from insurers - cheap decreasing term life insurance and cheap level term life insurance.

Cheap decreasing term life insurance

Cheap decreasing term life insurance is very cheap. For only a few pounds each month a cheap decreasing term life insurance policy will pay the balance of your mortgage should you die before it reaches full term. This type of term policy is called decreasing term life insurance because the sum insured decreases in line with your outstanding mortgage balance. The cheap premium remains the same for the life of the policy, making it an exceptionally cheap way to secure life insurance. A cheap decreasing term life insurance policy ONLY pays out a lump sum to clear your mortgage. This type of cheap term life insurance does not make any other provision for the loved ones you leave behind.

Cheap level term life insurance

Level term life insurance policies are not as cheap as decreasing term life insurance, although these types of term policies overall are still cheap, having only slightly higher premiums attached to them. The reason for the premium not being as cheap is that level term policies pay off your mortgage AND leave a lump sum to your partner, family and/or dependants. The sum insured through a cheap level term life insurance policy remains the same through the life of the policy, as does the cheap premium.

A cheap level term life insurance is recommended to run in tandem with your mortgage. However, a cheap level term life insurance policy can run differently from the term of your mortgage. For instance, you could take out a 10-year level term life insurance policy that is separate from any other cheap premium life policy covering your mortgage. The premiums on the 10-year insurance policy will not be as cheap because the term is short, but it will provide you with additional life insurance cover in the unfortunate event of your death.

Why Spend More Money For Teen Auto Insurance?

6:24 AM

With all other things being equal, auto insurance rates for teen drivers may cost almost twice as much than that of an adult driver. Purchasing auto insurance policy for teen drivers usually raises a lot of household's expenses by as much as 50 percent or even more.

The reasons behind this are as follows:

Remember that insuring a safe driver means that auto insurance companies won't have to shell out much money. Thus, younger drivers are considered less experienced and more reckless compared to the older ones, making the probability of them involving themselves in a vehicular accident fairly high. Also, according to statistics, there are more car crashes involving teenage drivers than the sum of car crashes involving all other age groups.

Now, what can a teen driver do to cut costs on auto insurance?

Here are the things they can do:

Teen drivers can raise their deductibles, try to get good grades in school, be made the primary driver on the family's oldest or cheapest car, finish a course on defensive driving and use a smaller and cheaper car with a high safety rating.
In any case, you can also try to search and compare auto insurance quotes from the Internet.

The Internet is actually one of the best ways to search for cheap auto insurance or to get some information before purchasing auto insurance policies. Although you may save time through online auto insurance quotes services, you still have to be aware of its advantages and disadvantages. The cheapest auto insurance policies you will find on the Internet are usually designed for motorists with four years or more of driving experience and who have made no claims. So, those who are considered as safe drivers generally receive more discounts.

Since owning a car can prove to be expensive, it is better to avail of a cheap auto insurance policy to cut on the overall expenses no matter how much your budget is. So, before buying a car, you should check its insurance group for you to have some idea on how much it would cost. The lower the auto insurance group, the lower quotes you shall receive. High performance vehicles usually cost more than ordinary ones. And if you are a driver of four or more years with no claims, you are guaranteed a no claims discount, which in effect gives you cheaper auto insurance quotes.

Now, although there are a lot of different kinds of discounts being offered by companies online, you still should be very careful. You will encounter many advertisements on cheap auto insurance policies, but a lot of them are really inadequate. On the other hand, you will also find on the Internet auto insurance companies that provide a lot of different benefits, discounts and approval on valid claims.

Needless to say, it is highly advisable to gather much information from different auto insurance companies and the policies they offer. Do compare their prices and be very particular with the details of their terms and conditions. And also, mentioning your good driving history is sure to give you cheaper auto insurance.

Car Insurance Rates - Can You Lower Them?

6:24 AM

Car insurance rates are prohibitive nowadays. Many families really struggle to pay the car insurance bill each month. And car insurance rates vary all the time. So if car insurance cost is an issue for you, what can you do about it?

The car insurance industry is a massive industry. It is also a highly competitive one, and car insurance rates vary over time as car insurance companies compete for business. Car insurance rates are often highly fluid.

It is entirely possible to lower the cost of your auto insurance rates by altering your behaviour, and you can do this by having a better understanding of how the rates are assessed.

Car insurance rates are based on an assessment of risk. Whilst insurance companies vary their rates to compete with other insurance companies, they also vary their rates based on their assessment of the risk posed by a particular driver driving a particular car. They do this because there is no point in buying business with low car insurance rates and then insuring high risk drivers at these rates. This is a recipe for losing money.

So, if you lower your risk, you lower your car insurance. How do you
lower your risk? Well there's a number of ways that your own driving and car behaviour can affect your car insurance rates.

Have a look at the car you drive. Is it suitable for your current needs? If not then would it be worthwhile to consider a change?

Different cars attract different auto insurance rates. Sports cars, high powered cars and cars at greater risk of theft attract higher rates. How long have you had your car and would it be wise to think about another one that would be cheaper to insure and more useful to you?

Are you a safe driver? Do you stick to the speed limit? Are you at risk of other driving offences? Many people do not think about some of the consequences of speeding tickets and driving offences until after they have seen their subsequent car insurance bill.

Your risk profile is a direct result of your driving record. A clean driving record and you will be rewarded by cheaper rates. A poor driving record and you will be penalised, usually for quite a while.

Are you willing to attend driver training courses? Many car insurance companies offer specific discounts for drivers who have attended a course. Why? Lower risk.

Are you willing to drive less? Could you car pool or use public transport to get to work? Car insurance companies look at the amount of driving their clients do when assessing their car insurance rates. Why? Lower risk. Less miles driven equals less risk. And you'll save on other car costs too.

So if auto insurance costs are an issue for you and your family there are things you can do. These are just a few of those things, there are many more. Car insurance rates are not set in stone.

Living Wills Decide Who Will Make Decisions When You Can't

6:25 AM

Many people are wondering what they need in the way of legal documents to make certain that, in the event of incapacity, their wishes are known and followed regarding potential end-of-life decisions. Advance directives are a set of documents that are used to lay out a clear chain of command to give decisions makers guidance as to the individual's wishes as they relate to the type of care desired in a crisis . It is a way to direct the decision maker about what an individual wants and does not want, should they be unable to make their wishes clear.

A LIVING WILL IS AN ADVANCE DIRECTIVE

Unlike Wills, which deal with matters after the death of a person, advance directives are usually put to use before a person dies, and they are critical part of the estate planning process. The three most common advance directives that are typically drafted are a power of attorney for financial decisions, a power of attorney for health care and a Living Will.

A power of attorney for financial decisions names a person to handle financial matters on behalf of another individual. A financial power of attorney can be very broad in the power that it confers on an individual to make serious decisions regarding a principal's assets.

A power of attorney for health care is similar in some ways to the power of attorney for financial decisions in that it also names a person to make decisions on behalf of someone else.

When executing a power of attorney for health care, an individual answers several questions in an attempt to make clearly exactly what kind of treatment they want, based on their medical condition.

A LIVING WILL AND A POWER OF ATTORNEY

A Living Will, in some ways duplicates the information in the power of attorney for health care, but unlike the power of attorney, which can also cover situations in which a person may recover but needs someone to make their medical decisions for a time, a Living Will is simply a directive stating that an individual does not want 'heroic measures' to keep them alive when there is no realistic prospect of any meaningful recovery.

It is more important to give your loved ones the tools they need to deal with your incapacity (and even your passing) with the confidence that they are fulfilling your wishes.

General Tips for How To Find Best Car Insurance

6:26 AM

The first person you need to call when you are involved in a car accident is probably your car accident lawyer, to help clarify a few issues. But once that is done, you might want to get in touch with your insurer. It is the time to lay claims on what you have been paying for months.

Operating and maintaining a car is a far cry from just buying it. When you have to worry about repairs, especially after an accident, you could worry yourself to death. But if there was a policy on the car, all this could get paid for by the insurance.

Auto insurance goes beyond just saving your own skin; it also delivers the other guy. Some quick medical issues may need to be taken care of that your car insurance might cover. If you didn't have the policy, either of you could lose life or limb as well as far too much money in the process.

There are very few states in the US that do not have prepared insurance packages for cars. It is a basic understanding that these things are sure to happen - the accidents. And so, preparations to have the damages sorted out by an insurance policy have to be put in place.

Liability coverage in car insurance can have up to three or more categories. First, a single person can be covered, and then any number of persons in the accident, and the third part is damage to other person's property. At least if that is available, you can begin to work something else out about your own property.

Until you have an accident someday, or your car gets stolen from you, you might never fully appreciate the value of car insurance. But suddenly, when you are faced with the expense of replacing the car, or repairing it, you then would understand what it is you have forfeited. If only you had chosen to be smart from the start.

Whatever the cost of car insurance is in your area, you can afford to have your car insured. Of course no one gets their car stolen every day, or get involved in an accident all the time, but any one time it happens, it could clean you out. That's why it's much better to be insured today.

You should get your auto insurance to provide liability coverage for as many people as are involved in an auto car crash with you. It is always better on the long run than having protection for one person only. At least this way you get to save lives.

Life and health insurance in personal financial planning.

6:25 AM

Life and health insurance have long been recognized as necessary and essential elements in an individual's or a family financial program. In a modern society, a sense of family responsibility meant that life and health insurance would grow in importance.

And still today life and health insurance continue to occupy an important role in the financial planning process.
This article has the purpose to provide an introduction to this process and highlights the means by which life and health insurance can assist in accomplishing one's financial plans.

A personal financial planning can be considered the process where an individual or a family decided to develop and implement an integrated plan to accomplish their objectives. The essential elements of this financial planning concept are the identification of financial goals and the development of an integrated plan to accomplish the objectives.

As all of us know humans are exposed to many serious perils, such as property losses from fire and windstorm, and personal losses from disability and death. Although individuals can not predict or prevent completely the occurrence of these dangerous events, they can provide against thier financial effects. The function of insurance is to safeguard against such misfortunes by having the losses of the unfortunate few paid by the contributions of the many who are exposed to the same peril.

The essence of of insurance is the sharing of losses and, in the process, the substitution of a certain small loss ( that is to say the premium payment ) for an uncertain, large loss.

In the peril under consideration is that of the death, the financial loss suffered can be reduced through life insurance. If the peril is instead disability, the financial loss can be compensated by the health insurance.

Insurance may be defined from two perspectives: that of the society and that of the individual. From the society's point of view, life or health insurance may be defined as a social device where individuals transfer the financial risks associated with loss of life or health to the group of individuals, and which involves the accumulation of funds: and this concept means that the insurance exists when there is a transfer of the risk from the individual to the group.

From the individual's point of view, life or health insurance may be defined as an agreement where one party pays a stipulated consideration ( the premium ) to the other party ( the insurer ), in return for which the insurer agrees to pay a defined amount of money if the person whose life is insured dies or suffers an illness to a stated time.

Term Life Insurance Definition

6:24 AM

Term Life insurance has been with us for a long time. It is the least expensive of all the life insurance policies. Term life insurance is life insurance that provides protection for the named insured over a stated period of time. That is what differentiates it from other forms of life insurance. Term insurance has no equity or cash value accumulation and so it is primarily purchased for the security provided by the death benefit. There are three basic forms of term life insurance.

1. Decreasing Term - This policy is most commonly associated with mortgage protection insurance. The face amount decreases over a stated period of time. A thirty year mortgage for a homeowner is appropriately insured by a thirty year decreasing term policy for the same mortgage amount. The mortgage balance and the term policy decrease at about the same rate and so the homeowner can be assured that his home will be paid for whether he or she lives or dies.

2. Level Term - Level term insurance also provides protection for a specific time period. The face amount remains level throughout the stated period. This policy is often purchased for short term debt or intermediate term debt. You can purchase 5, 10, 15 and 20 year term policies from most insurance companies.

3. Annual Renewable - This form of term insurance is the least recognized of all term policies. It provides a level amount of insurance but the premium increases each year at the policy renewal date. The premiums can be very low at first but can escalate into very high premiums as the insured gets older.

All of these term life insurance policies have there advantages but the common denominators that give term life insurance its definition remains the same. The policy is always for a stated period of time and there is no equity or cash value accumulations. Those two features define term life insurance.

Do You Need Health Or Travel Insurance?

6:26 AM

Obtaining medical treatment and hospital care can be costly for travelers who are injured or who become seriously ill overseas. The Social Security Medicare/Medicaid program does not provide coverage for hospital or medical services outside the United States.

Before you leave the United States, you should be informed about which medical services your health insurance will cover abroad.

Senior citizens may wish to contact the American Association of Retired Persons for information about foreign medical care coverage with Medicare supplement plans.

If your health insurance policy does not provide coverage for hospital or medical costs abroad, you are urged to purchase a temporary health policy that does provide this type of coverage. There are short-term health and emergency assistance policies designed for travelers.

You can find the names of companies that provide such policies from your travel agent, your health insurance company, or from advertisements in travel publications. In addition to health insurance, many policies include trip cancellation, baggage loss, and travel accident insurance in the same package. Some traveler's check companies have protection policies available with the purchase of traveler's checks.

Medical Evacuation

Although some health insurance companies may pay 'customary and reasonable' hospital costs abroad, very few will pay for medical evacuation back to the United States. Medical evacuation can easily cost $10,000 or more, depending on your location and medical condition.

One of the main advantages of health and emergency assistance policies is that they often include coverage for medical evacuation to the United States. Even if your regular health insurance covers you for emergencies abroad, you should consider purchasing supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Whichever health insurance coverage you choose for travel overseas, remember to carry with you both your health insurance policy identity card and claim forms.

Do You Need Travel Insurance?

You may not need travel insurance, if you are already adequately covered by other insurance policies.

Depending on the travel insurance plan, travel insurance usually promises to cover you for cancellation or interruption of your trip, some form of emergency medical care while you are traveling, lost or stolen luggage, and various other troublesome occurrences.

Before you decide on a travel insurance plan, it is wise to investigate the plan carefully and read the fine print. You should closely check any agreements with your travel agent, tour operator, airline, or other companies involved with your travel plans. The agreements may include written guarantees.

If you have a fully refundable airline ticket, you may decide that you would not need trip cancellation/interruption insurance.

On the other hand, it may be worthwhile noting that certain insurance plans can protect you by covering the financial costs in case of the following situations:

A sudden, serious injury or illness to you, a family member, or a traveling companion.
Financial default of the airline, cruise line or tour operator.

Natural disasters or strikes that impede travel services.

A terrorist incident in a foreign city within 10 days of your scheduled arrival in that particular city.

The fact that you, a traveling member of your family, or a traveling companion were quarantined served with a court order or required to serve on a jury.

A circumstance in which you were directly involved in an accident enroute to departure for your trip.

It is a good idea to check your other insurance policies. For instance, your homeowners or tenants insurance may cover the loss or theft of your luggage.

Certain credit cards may also provide additional travel insurance, if you have used them to purchase the ticket for your trip.

Your health insurance may provide certain coverage, regardless of where you travel. But it is very important to note that some policies only partially cover medical expenses abroad. Moreover, as previously explained in the section on Health Insurance, Medicare/Medicaid will not cover hospital and medical services outside the United States.

Your travel agent should be able to advise you about the right plan for you. Before purchasing travel insurance, review the plan carefully, and be wary of buying coverage that you may already have.

Florida Health Insurance

6:26 AM

Florida health insurance costs can prove to be a very real obstacle to many Florida consumers that are searching for a comprehensive and affordable Florida health insurance policy. Florida health insurance premiums can be pricey at first glance. However, when you consider that even some routine surgeries plus a week or more in a Florida hospital could cost upwards of six figures then the importance of finding a Florida health insurance policy that is both comprehensive and affordable cannot be underestimated.

The Florida health insurance market is a very competitive market. This is at once a very good thing and a very bad thing for the Florida health insurance shopper. The competitiveness of the Florida health insurance market is good for the Florida consumer because it forces the top companies to drive down their rates in an effort to maintain affordable health insurance policies as they compete against each other for your business. The negative aspect of the Florida health insurance market's competitiveness is that many insurance companies are attracted to the strong demand for health insurance in the state of Florida and not all have the sterling reputation of an Aetna, Humana, or a United Healthcare.

Without mentioning names, this strong demand for Florida health insurance will attract health insurance companies to Florida that are forced to put calendar year limits in their policies or only cover benefits up to a certain amount (an indemnity style policy) in order to try and compete with stronger, more established companies.

Just to contrast the seriousness of this, imagine that you blow out your knee as you are exercising and you have to have arthroscopic knee surgery and a week plus in the hospital brings the total bill to $100,000.

With a strong reputable Florida health insurance company with an established dependable network such as one of the Florida health insurance 'Big 3' (Aetna, Humana, and United Healthcare) you will have coverage of anywhere from $3,000,000 to $5,000,000 per person without any calendar year limits and without limits on benefits payable for certain procedures. That $100,000 hospital bill is whittled down to your maximum out of pocket cost of probably around $3,000 to $5,000 depending on your policies deductible and coinsurance amount.

Now imagine that you had decided years back that you wanted to go with a Florida health insurance company that you had never heard of until then and purchase a seemingly attractive indemnity policy or a policy with a calendar year limit: if the limit on the policy is for say $10,000 for that particular procedure or maybe only up to $200 a day for every day in the hospital guess what? Once you reach that limit threshold you are stuck with the rest of the bill. It is as if you do not even have insurance once you reach the limits in the policy.

The different Florida health insurance policies can be difficult to navigate without the assistance of an expert independent insurance agent. View Florida health insurance quotes from the top companies side by side and compare them to ensure that you have both affordable and comprehensive Florida health insurance.

Critical Illness Insurance Do you really need it? Or is it a waste of time?

6:26 AM

GREAT NEWS! There's now a one in five chance of you winning the lottery before you retire.

Getting excited? Think it's just a matter of time before you win? Think again, it's not going to happen - but it got you thinking!

Now think of the same odds but this time about bad news. There is a 1 in 5 chance for men and a 1 in 6 chance for women that a long-term critical illness will prevent them from working. Sorry - this time it's true.

Insurance cannot change those odds but it can alleviate the potential financial wreckage caused by being unable to work through long-term illness and still having a family and home to support.

Convention declares that every good family man should have life insurance. It's easily understood, it's accepted and your next door neighbour has it too. But what about it's close cousin critical illness insurance? You'll have to walk several streets to find someone who has it. Given the odds, why? After all it pays out a tax-free lump sum immediately an insured critical illness is diagnosed.

The usual reason given is its expense. Yes it is more expensive than life insurance but after all it's providing cover for a greater risk. You're much more likely to experience a critical illness than die before your normal retirement age. Indeed, the average age for a claim is 47. So clearly there is much more to the public's resistance.

Not understanding the risks or 'head in the sand syndrome' are certainly major factors. After all a lzheimer's disease, bacterial meningitis, brain tumours and leukaemia plus the long list of other illnesses typically covered by critical illness insurance, are not matters we care to think of nor know much about.

Could there be another reason? Well there have been repeated newspaper articles about people who claim on their critical illness policy only to have it turned down on an apparent technicality - the inference being that the insurance company cannot be trusted. Indeed, Standard Life freely admits that it turns down around 20 % of critical illness claims.

The truth is that behind every story of rejection there's a harrowing story of illness, distress and sorrow - and potential copy for the journalist. But that in itself, is not evidence that the insurance company is guilty of devious behaviour.

Yes insurance companies do make mistakes, but more often than not the claim was invalid from the outset. There are two main causes. Firstly, the policyholder is claiming for an illness that is not one of the critical illnesses scheduled in the policy documentation. Regrettable, but it's a fact that if the illness is not listed it isn't insured and the policy won't pay out.

The moral is to closely compare the illnesses covered by competing insurance companies and buy the one with the most extensive coverage of illnesses. If you don't, sods law will prevail .

The second major reason for refusal is a failure to disclose all relevant matters on the original application form. For example, if the applicant fails to disclose in response to the insurance company's questions that his father a died of a heart attack aged 50 or that he is having medical tests for headaches, then the insurance company will wrongly assess the risks it is being invited to insure. Had the insurance company known this extra information they might have increased the premium, or asked the applicant to go for a medical examination, or waited for the outcome of tests, or even refused to provide cover. By failing to disclose, the applicant has effectively obtained cover on false pretences or at least on inaccurate information.

Thereby lies the second moral. Always provide the truth and the full truth on your application form. Anything remotely relevant to your medical condition must be disclosed.

All this points to the need for professional insurance advice. Critical Illness policies do vary and it can take an experienced eye to evaluate the best policy for your circumstances and pocket. This doesn't mean that you have to miss out on the discounted premiums available online - but do thoroughly talk it through with one of their telephone based advisers and do make sure you read the schedule of claimable illnesses when it arrives in the post.

Then sit back knowing you've taken another important step to protect your family's finances. Lets all hope that you're one of the majority who are happy never to claim.

It's now time to concentrate on enjoying life.

Key Issues You Must Know About Your First Auto Insurance Claim

6:26 AM

If you are a new driver, you need a quick but dependable guide to the world of auto insurance and claims. The first thing you want to do is get up to speed before you need to file a claim. You can either study the following tips and be prepared, or wait for an accident and fumble your way through. The smart choice should be obvious!

Most states require at least a minimum amount of car insurance, but if a bank or other lien holder still owns your car (has the 'pink slip') you may need to have more comprehensive coverage. The more complete policies will not only protect you and you auto in case of fire, theft, accidents and other disasters, it will protect any other persons or vehicles that are involved if, in fact, you are at fault. If you already have purchased insurance, you should review it regularly, at least annually, to ensure that it is sufficient for your changing needs.

Rather than assembling a list of 'tips,' let's walk through the issues that you will actually face, and do it in the order it will likely occur. The first thing to do, before you get involved in any sort of mishap or accident, is make sure you have your policy card in your wallet or purse, and another copy in the car's glove-box.

Now, what should you do if you are an insured motorist and you get in an accident? What steps you should take, in what order, to get your claim handled quickly and accurately?

The first thing you do is gauge the extent of the injuries and wreckage so that you know which call to make first. If you were involved in a 2mph fender-bender in a parking lot, that first call should be to your insurance agent. The police will rarely even show up for non-injury accidents these days. On the other hand, for a serious accident, the first call should obviously go to 911. Get help on the scene at once.

Then you should call your insurance company. You should make this phone call just as soon as you ca, as long as you do not leave the scene to do so. Luckily, in this day and age most people carry cell phones, so if you don't have one someone nearby will. You want your insurance company 'on the job' and 'on the case' at the earliest opportunity.

The next issue involves towing the car to an auto body shop. You should have towing coverage if you have a 'full' policy, otherwise you will pay out of pocket for this. The other body shop issue concerns which party chooses the repair shops, you or the insurer. It is faster if you use one of the company's approved service providers, but you can probably get your choice of repair facility approved, too. This is something you should take care of before you need to, frankly.

Early in the process, probably as soon as the repair facility has your auto, your insurance company will have you fill out an accident report and submit any medical records that result from treatment following the incident. This will give the claims adjusters the information they need to determine what portion of your expenses are covered by your policy.

Claims adjusters have a very specific role and certain well-defined tasks that they are supposed to handle efficiently within a certain, reasonable amount of time. This varies from company to company and state to state, but generally speaking the adjuster will manage your insurance claim process, assemble all relevant reports, keep you (the policy holder) in the loop, quantify the damages to your person and your vehicle, deal with the repair facility and shepherd all the paperwork through the company channels to a resolution that is mutually agreeable.

One major issue is always time. The claims process is never as fast as anyone wants it to be. You can help things along by providing the medical information and accident details in a timely, efficient and painstaking manner. This will help your insurance company get to work on your settlement and handle the process in the least amount of time, like 'right away.'

There are some preparatory measures you should take, too. Make sure that you have a copy of your insurance policy, or at least your policy card with the number on it, in your wallet/purse and auto. Since photos of any incident can be very useful in negotiating an insurance settlement, you should consider keeping a low-priced digital camera (or a one-time-use model, which sells for around $10) in your car, too.

It also helps to have the name of at least one person at your insurance company with whom you stay in at least occasional contact. Consider making a call sometime to discuss with your insurer just what your best practices and available options are when you have various kinds of accidents or need to make certain kinds of claims.

Finally, save the number of the 24-hour claims line in your cell phone's memory so you don't have to read a number from a card in the dark. If you do get in an accident, you want to be just four 'pushed buttons' away from having everything handled: three buttons for 911, and the single-digit speed dial assignment for your insurance company. Now that's the way to be prepared.

Steps To Be Taken To Attain Cheap Auto Insurance

6:25 AM

In order to get an over all idea on the type of auto insurance that one requires, one can go online and contact any one of the online insurance brokerage firms. They provide an individual with a variety of options including complete information on the quotes offered by different insurance firms for comparing them and getting an idea about what various insurance policies can offer him. Before deciding on which policy to buy, one needs to decide upon his or her individual requirements like the amount he or she can pay every month as premium, the amount of deductible etc.

There are various ways though, by which one can make sure that he or she gets the best deal when it comes to auto insurance. Some of them are as follows :

● One can provide the online insurance brokerage firms with complete information about oneself. A general idea about the driver's profile, helps the firms in deciding the suitability of an individual for a particular policy and the quote price to be given to him. The information provided must be authentic as personal information is an important criteria by which various companies evaluate their applicants.

● One needs to go over the variety of options available to an individual when it comes to choosing the right auto insurance. The applicant must take into consideration his monetary status and evaluate the policy for various hidden clauses. It has often been observed that insurance firms do not disclose everything to their applicants.

● In order to save a lot of money on the amount of premium paid by an individual every month, one can increase the amount of deductible. A deductible is the amount that is cut off by the insurance firm when the actual coverage money is paid to the claimant.

Go Online For Auto Insurance

6:26 AM

For the Best Car Insurance Quotation, Go Online

Insuring your car is no longer as taxing as it used to be. Ironically enough, you don't have to drive around in your car to find the best auto insurance company with the best quotations. Before buying any insurance policy, however, it is best to shop around first. Ask for several insurance quotations and choose the best one.

But not everyone has the luxury of time. Not everyone can go and visit different insurance agencies and consult with insurance experts. But as I mentioned, all these things, all the processes of that has anything to do with purchasing auto insurance coverage can be done online. And online, it can be done faster and efficiently.

Online insurance agencies employ professional insurance experts, too, to provide online answers to whoever chances upon their web site. So, you can be sure that the answers you get from reputable online insurance web sites are dependable and legit. Basically, all the services provided by the agency in their office will also be offered in their web site. So, you're not missing anything, really.

There are two most well known car insurance policies in the market. These are comprehensive coverage and collision coverage. If you have comprehensive coverage, you will be covered for damages to your car not caused by collision. For example, if your car catches fire, comprehensive coverage will take care of you. Sometimes, when you leave your car in a public parking lot, vandals can get to it. Not to worry, though, comprehensive coverage will take care of that, too. Theft, flooding and other acts of God is covered by comprehensive coverage.

Now, when the damage to your car is caused by collision with another car, then collision coverage (as the name suggests) will cover you. Of course, collision will kick in if the accident was your fault. If the accident was caused by the other driver, his or her collision coverage should be the one to take care of things.

Always be mindful when applying and getting auto insurance coverage. Make sure that the insurance coverage you purchase will provide full coverage when you need it. Ask for several quotes, scrutinize all of it and chose the best one. Consider your budget also.

Now, the type and the value of the car to be insured matters a lot when insurance premium rate is concerned. Usually, the more expensive and high end the car is, the higher the auto insurance premium will be. With sports cars and classic cars, these cars are believed to be more likely to be stolen. You may go online to find out about the list of theft prone vehicles. Because of this high incidence of theft among these cars, the auto insurance premium rate will be higher than usual.

If your driving history is clean, meaning you don't have traffic or road violations listed there, this will affect the auto insurance premium rate positively. The auto insurance company will believe you to be a safe driver and will consider you a low risk customer. If you've been driving safely for a very long time now, based on your driving history, then you will continue driving safely in the years to come. The premium rate that will be quoted you will then be lower.

Knowing all these things, you can now go online and get insurance quotation with an informed background.

Buying Life Insurance? One Tip To Save You Thousands!

6:25 AM

It's simple, always have your Life Insurance policy 'Written in Trust'. This may sound technical but it is easy to understand and it's so easy to organise.

'Written in Trust' ensures that in the event of a claim, the policy will pay directly to the beneficiaries you name on the policy when you first take it out. If you do not do this, the policy will payout to your legal estate and this inevitably means that the money stays in your solicitor's hands for some time.

Yes, that implies legal delays and, of course, your solicitor takes a small cut!

Then, if the value of your taxable estate exceeds ?275,000, and remember your home can easily account for the lion's share of the ?275,000 limit without much difficulty, your estate will have to pay Inheritance Tax. This represents 40% of the estate's taxable value in excess of ?275,000. So, if your estate has to pay Inheritance Tax and the proceeds of your life policy go to your estate, the taxman gets his hands on 40% of your life policy!

But it's so easy to avoid all these problems.

Simply get your policy 'Written in Trust'. Then the life insurance company pays out immediately, directly, and totally tax-free, to the persons you have named on your policy. All you have to do is tell the online brokerage organising your policy that you want your policy 'Written in Trust' and they will automatically sort it out for you.

This advice remains sound even if the policy is designed to pay off your mortgage. Rather than your estate using the insurance payout to pay off your mortgage, the policy can be written in trust and paid to your partner and then he or she can use that money to pay of the mortgage. The benefit? Well if your taxable estate exceeds the IHT threshold the mortgage is effectively paid off tax-free.

The extra good news is that all the brokers we've met will arrange for your policy to be 'Written in Trust' as a free of charge service. So it's a win win situation and there aren't many of those around these days!

6:26 AM

If your situation changes, and you decide you need more (or less) coverage, you can control how the universal life insurance policy operates. Many consumers have found that they appreciate the added control and hassle-free flexibility they receive from owning universal life insurance. As with any life insurance policy, the benefits provide financial security for your loved ones in the untimely event of your death.

What Can I Gain from Universal Life Insurance Quotes?

Once you've made the decision to purchase universal life insurance, the first step to securing a policy is to find out how much coverage you can afford. The best way to do this is by getting universal life insurance quotes. When deciding how much you can spend, remember that with universal life insurance, you are always able to add more coverage later if you want. Steps to be Taken Care of while purchasing Auto Insurance

6:26 AM

Before buying auto insurance, a person must make sure that he has adequate information on the auto insurance industry, the insurance process, car quotes etc. Otherwise, there are good chances of the person being duped and being settled for a deal, which may have a much higher quote price than usual. It is very important for one to be insured, owing to the alarming increase in the number of cases of car accidents day by day.

But it becomes very difficult when it comes to buying good auto insurance, owing to the lot of options available in the insurance sector. In order to choose the best option amongst a multitude of offers available, one must go for a thorough process of comparing the various quotes available. The applicant also needs to be aware of the criteria on which various companies judge them and award benefits.

Insurance firms generally evaluate people on a range of indices in order to make sure that they are worth providing the policy to. Some of these indices include the type of car driven by the individual, the area in which he or she resides etc. The area in which an individual lives plays an important role in determining the quote price for a particular policy. This is because if the area in which the individual lives or the area in which the car owned by the applicant is parked is prone to vandalism or has a history of grand theft auto, then the quote price will be much higher.

One can provide the online insurance brokerage firms with complete information about oneself. A general idea about the driver's profile helps the firms in deciding the suitability of an individual for a particular policy and the quote price to be given to him. The information provided must be authentic as personal information is an important criterion by which various companies evaluate their applicants. In the event of any damage caused to one's car by reasons other than car accident like fire, damage caused by vandals, natural calamities etc, the insurance company will have to pay out a required sum in the form of comprehensive insurance. It is mandatory that payment be made to the individual.

Therefore it is the responsibility of the consumer to understand the clauses clearly so that maximum benefit can be drawn from the insurance companies.

Driving without car insurance? Soon, they'll lock you up and throw away the key!

6:26 AM

See, a couple months back a young married woman ran a red light (accidentally) and smashed into my car. Astonishingly enough, she had 2 weeping children by her side with no driver's license. As she frantically scrambled for her phone to call her husband, he arrived shortly with the insurance information scribbled on a crumpled piece of scratch paper.

Being the nice guy that I am, I wrote down the information and then reluctantly reported the incident to my insurance company.

My insurance agent rang back within a couple of hours, and guess what I hear next? The information that this nice young woman gave me was totally bogus! The woman who totaled my car was did not have car insurance. What!

I couldn't believe this. I was had! All of us hard working, law abiding, car insurance paying citizens fork over hundreds of dollars a month in order to comply with our mandatory car insurance laws. It seems like we are paying the bills to push back our dismay at spending large sums on something we cannot immediately see, touch, smell, or hear. Soon enough everybody will be forced to acquire car insurance.

California legislators are now debuting a three-phase plan focused on uninsured motorists. California legislators are creating this plan for people like me, for people that do pay insurance, for people that don't make bogus claims, for people that are law abiding citizens like you and me. This plan will be enforced with the sole intent on making uninsured motorists pay the ultimate price.

Get ready uninsured motorists, here comes the bad news! As of January 1st, insurance agencies are required to electronically submit evidence of financial responsibility to the DMV. This means, if your car insurance faults at any time, the DMV will be notified immediately. What does this mean for uninsured motorists? The DMV will send you a nasty little note along with your registration renewal notice requesting that you submit proof of financial responsibility before they will ever renew your registration again. This is a must people. There is no getting around this one.

Alright people, let's do the simple math here. If you get pulled over on or after July 1 of this year, do you really think that the excuse that you left your car insurance card in your house really going to fly with the authorities? Come on. These are the fat kids in high school who you used to pick on. It's payback time in their eyes. As of right now, law enforcement has the same access to the current status of your insurance just like the DMV. Don't fret, because I have good news for everybody. Read on.

The final cut throat will come on October 6th as when the California DMV will be required to suspend the registrations of uninsured motorists. Wait, what does that mean? That means there is no getting around it. It means there is no where to go. It's your dead end buddy. Insurance is a must.

Now, I'm a nice guy. I'm a very understanding person. I'm willing to look at both sides of the fence here. Given, some people just outright choose to not have car insurance; however there are the few out there that simply cannot afford the sky-high car insurance premiums that are simply out of budget and quite frankly out of reach for some motorists.

No worries, the state of California has the bases covered for most. See, as of April 1, the California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program is being offered to low-income drivers in Alameda, Fresno, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties, previously only available in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

This low cost insurance is available from any licensed insurance agent at a cost of just over $300 per year. Lower-income drivers who meet the qualifying guidelines will be able to protect themselves and their families while complying with the law. More information about the program is available at the state department of insurance website.

If you drive into Los Angeles County today, look around you, because it is estimated that one out of four people on the road are driving without car insurance.

When the new laws kick in, sorry Charlie, but you must get car insurance, and you must get car insurance right now.

Life Insurance And Critical Illness Insurance. Cancer Tests To Increase Women's Premiums

6:26 AM

Ladies, if your mother or any other female blood-line relatives have a history of breast or ovarian cancer then from next year onwards, you could face higher insurance premiums. You could even be refused cover altogether.

When these women apply for life and critical illness cover, the insurance industry wants to ask them whether they have been tested for the gene mutations BRCA1 or BRCA2. These are the gene complications that increase the chances of them developing these cancers. But before the insurance companies can ask these questions on their application forms, they must get approval from the Genetics and Insurance Committee, the body that advises the Government on these and similar issues.

In the coming months the Association of British Insurers (ABI) will be requesting the Committee for authority to ask women whether they have been tested positive for BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations. These are the mutations that are present in 1 in 10 of newly diagnosed cases of ovarian cancer and 1 in 20 of new cases of breast cancer. Approximately 1 in 850 women in Britain inherit a faulty BRCA1 gene and of those, 14 - 18% will develop breast cancer during in their lives.

On the web site for the Genetics and Insurance Committee we found a notice saying, ' The Committee expects that the Association of British Insurers will submit in late 2006/2007 four revised and updated applications for the use of adverse results from the predictive genetic tests of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (breast/ovarian cancer) in helping to determine insurance premiums for life and critical illness insurance'.

So far, application forms issued by British insurance companies are only allowed to ask for the results of predictive tests for Huntington's disease. Even then, the question can only be asked when the application is for more than ?500,000 of life insurance cover or mote than ?300,000 for critical illness insurance or over ?30,000 for payment protection insurance. This rule is set under an agreement entered into by the insurance industry which is due to expire in 2011 but the Chairman of the ABI's Genetics Working Party, Harpal Karlcut, is reported in the trade insurance magazine 'Cover', as saying: -

'We are looking to get approval for the breast cancer test by the end of the year', adding, 'The two breast cancers are the next conditions that we will look at but after that we don't see the need to look at other conditions. We do keep an eye out for what diseases may come up in the future but there is nothing else on the horizon'. We add another important rider - yet!

Best Home Owner Insurance - What Is The Best?

6:26 AM

The best homeowner insurance is the insurance that best meets your needs. The insurance shopper that takes the time to understand the basic elements of home insurance will have much more confidence and sense of satisfaction when making an insurance purchase. The homeowner policy has been around for a long time and so most of us have a general concept on how the policy works. The more you know about the market value of your home and the approximate cost to rebuild it the better off you will be when shopping for the homeowner policy.

This kind of knowledge is the foundation for determining what kind of policy to purchase. The age of your home has a direct bearing on the market value. The older homes built in the 1900's have much lower market values today because most of them have depreciated. The market value for an older Victorian style home may be $50,000 but the actual cost to rebuild that home may be $200,000. The older homes that depreciate in market value are insured with actual cash value policies. They are often called market value policies. These policies will reimburse you for the market value of your home when there is a total loss. The market value policy is the best homeowner policy for the older home that has depreciated.

The replacement cost policy is better designed for newer homes or homes under construction. The replacement cost of a home and the market value are almost the same. Replacement cost is applied to the dwelling and most often to the contents of the dwelling. Replacement cost will repair or replace any loss with like kind and quality of materials without depreciation.

The best homeowner insurance for you will be determined by the age and market value of your home. The discounts for older and newer homes are the same. The protective device discount for deadbolt locks, smoke detectors, and fire extinguisher apply to both types of policies. Fire and burglar alarm systems are additional discounts that could be applied to both older and newer homes. Check our recommended insurers for more details.

When is a House a Home?

6:25 AM

It seems that Britons are getting into the habit of buying property only to leave it unattended for long periods at a time it has been revealed, prompting many insurance companies to create cover for such an occasion.

Sainsbury's Home Insurance has commissioned research which states that a lot of Britons either leave or plan to leave their house empty whilst they take breaks abroad to escape the doom and gloom of a winter led England.

The insurance provider has found that around 1.72 million people plan to take this course of action over the next year increasing the risk of break in's for their property.

Neil Laird, Sainsbury's Home Insurance manager, said: 'It really is essential and even applies if you have arranged for a friend or neighbour to keep an eye on the house that you make sure that unattended homes are covered on your insurance policy.'

Cover
Such coverage can be found in a new policy released by insurance provider Intrasure. A new policy has been introduced for Britons who have property in England but are away out of the country for long periods at a time.

Intrasure have decided to introduce this new policy for those who don't reap the benefits of a home from home, be it through retirement or well earned funds.

The beauty of this new policy is the flexibility garnered for homeowners with itchy feet. With these new policies, there are no restrictions on how long a property can be left unoccupied and also can be covered should the home be rented out.

Home bound
For those who decide to stay home however, the dangers are still there. Reports have suggested that the credit crunch has forced many to entertain at their home rather than venture out, which has in turn led to a rise in domestic faux pas. Swinton has suggested that despite the obvious benefits of staying in, small but significant accidents could mean trouble for an insurance policy.

81% of people have recently stated they would rather stay in than go out, with 36% stating that such an action has led to an accident which has caused un-repairable damage to household furniture.
The most common accidents were spillage of alcohol, cigarette burns on carpet and sofa and breakage of electrical equipment.

Warning
Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager, for Swinton said: 'Many people have a lot of expensive furniture in their homes such as carpets and sofas, all of which are covered under their home insurance policy. Many people do not realise that most electrical items such as televisions, hi-fi equipment and computers are also covered by standard contents insurance.'

'However, claiming to replace or repair these items following drunken mishaps can cause contents insurance premiums to rise steeply and most policies will have an excess to pay.'

Why Buy Travel Insurance?

6:27 AM

When you choose to travel, you take the risk of lost luggage, flight cancellations, reservation cancellations, theft and many other situations which may cause anxiety. Planning a vacation is stressful enough without having to worry about something going horribly wrong. Purchasing travel insurance will ensure that you are compensated if anything goes wrong on your trip. When trying to determine whether or not to purchase travel insurance, keep in mind the points listed below which may make your decision much easier.

Many forms of travel insurance will cover you in the following areas:

1. Medical Emergencies - Travel insurance will provide you with financial help should you encounter a medical emergency while traveling. If you become ill or are injured while on vacation, your travel insurance will provide you coverage in both situations.

2. Cancellations or Delays - If for any reason (beyond your control) your trip is cancelled or delayed your travel insurance will provide you with financial coverage. This includes coverage if your airline goes bankrupt or out of service. Your travel insurance will either compensate you for the money you lost or provide you with new means of transportation.

3. Theft - If anything belonging to you is stolen while you are on vacation, your travel insurance will provide you with financial assistance to replace the items which were stolen.

4. Damage or Loss of Personal Property - This is likely to happen while on vacation. If your luggage is lost or damaged while on vacation, your travel insurance will definitely cover at least some percentage of the property that is missing. Depending on the insurance plan, it may financially cover all the items that are missing.

5. Lost Passport - If you lose your passport or it is stolen while you are on vacation, travel insurance will provide you with the means to get a temporary one. Your travel insurance company will inform you on how to get in contact with your country embassy so that you can arrange to receive a temporary passport.

Depending on the insurance plan you choose, you may be fully or partially covered in the areas listed above. Choose your policy according to what you think the possibility will be that you will require the assistance on your trip.

For many vacationers, travel insurance eliminates any worry that an unforeseen circumstance may arise in which you do not have the money or means to take care of.

Travel insurance helps you relax and enjoy your trip without agonizing over things that may or may not go wrong. Relaxing and enjoying? Isn't that why you planned the vacation in the first place?
